You
can receive your listening and viewing options
in standard definition or high definition.
Standard definition is the same television you
have been watching since the 1950s. HDTV, the
newest digital format, provides a theater-like
experience.
Standard Definition Options
(DVD) Digital Versatile Disc – The
standard format for movie rentals.
(VCR) Video Cassette Recorder – Quickly going
the way of the dinosaur, the VCR is relegated
primarily to children's programming.
(DVR) Digital Video Recorder – Available
through services such as Tivo and Replay, allowing
you to find and digitally record the programming you
want — your favorite show, every Coppola movie, home
improvement programs, Dora cartoons, whatever you
choose. Plus, pause, rewind and slo-mo live TV.
Satellite – Available through services such
as Dish Network and DirecTV, allowing you to select
from hundreds of channels featuring the best premium
movie channels, sports, family programming, music,
pay per view movies and events, local channels, and
international programming. All presented in digital
quality.
(HDTV) High Definition Options
Satellite – Satellite providers offer
channels in HDTV; a special HDTV receiver and
subscription is required.
Cable – Local cable providers offer channels
in HDTV; a special HDTV receiver and subscription is
required.
Off-air – No subscription required; just
place an antenna in the attic, sometimes outside,
and receive all your local stations in digital HDTV;
a special HDTV receiver is required.
(DVR) Digital Video Recorder – In addition to
all the features of a standard definition recorder,
it can record HDTV programming.
